CATEGORIES AND CRITERIA

Humanitarian

A star will be considered for individuals who have significant affiliation with Palm Springs, who have made notable contributions to their community, state, and country through philanthropic endeavors and selfless acts of kindness. The nominee should have received honors or awards at the national or international level for their exceptional efforts. Their impact should be widely recognized by the general public, either locally or internationally, and should have had a positive effect on humanity's well-being, health, or the community. 


Examples: Jackie Lee Houston, Harold Matzner, Steve Chase

Entertainment

A star will be considered for show business personalities who have achieved excellence in their respective fields, such as actors, producers, directors, playwrights, cinematographers, musicians, and other entertainment-related professions spanning stage, radio, film, and television. Nominees in the entertainment industry should have garnered recognition from their peers and received prestigious awards and honors for their outstanding achievements. Additionally, their contributions and influence should extend to Palm Springs, solidifying their reputation on an international scale.


Examples: Frank Sinatra, Dionne Warwick, Bob Hope

Civic/Pioneer

A star will be considered for those individuals who have played a vital role in the development of Palm Springs, and who have made significant contributions to the community, including early settlers, tribal members, and civic personalities. These individuals should have achieved notable accomplishments that are widely recognized and admired.

Architect/Artist/Designer

A star will be considered for those leaders in the field of architecture and art who have helped shape Palm Springs' look, feel, and character. Their work must have gained recognition at the national or international level and have played a role in creating the distinct style that Palm Springs is famous for globally.


Examples: Arthur Elrod, William Charles Tanner, Donald Wexler

Athlete

A star will be considered for individuals who have attained exceptional success in the realm of sports and have garnered recognition from their peers. Eligibility for nomination requires the recipient to have received esteemed awards and honors at the national or international level. Additionally, their achievements should have made a significant impact on the sporting community of Palm Springs, further cementing their status as a distinguished athlete.


Examples: Timothy Ray Bradley, Jr., Arnold Palmer

Military

 A star will be considered for nominees who have demonstrated an illustrious military career, with a specific tie to Palm Springs. The nominee must have attained the esteemed rank of Flag or General in one of the United States Armed Services. Moreover, eligible nominees should have garnered admiration and respect from their peers within the industry. It is essential for their connection to Palm Springs, whether through their works inspired by the city or their active involvement in the local literary community, to be evident in order to be considered for this honor.
